A leader says they want innovation, then publicly criticizes someone whose reasonable risk didn’t work out. They ask for strategic partnership, but keep rewarding people for taking orders and rescuing projects.
People notice what leaders do—not just what they say. But how do you raise the contradiction when the person involved has more authority than you?
This course is about having that conversation. We’ll work on connecting before correcting, understanding what someone may be protecting, and finding ways to challenge their behaviour without making it harder for them to hear you.

What we’ll work on
- Understanding the person and the situation before deciding how to approach them.
- Connecting before correcting—and knowing when to pause.
- Building a credible argument that speaks to what matters to the other person.
- Examining assumptions, including your own.
- Helping someone see the gap between their intentions and their impact.
- Moving from a difficult conversation toward practical change and repair.
We’ll use realistic situations to practise different approaches. We’ll draw on emotional intelligence, the Resonance Model, and established persuasion concepts—not scripts that assume every leader responds the same way.

Practising BRMs who need to influence leaders and other decision-makers without having formal authority over them.
Format and duration
Live, instructor-led online, with discussion, practical exercises, and time to practise conversations and receive feedback.
Six hours, including five instructional hours, one 30-minute break, and two 15-minute breaks.
